Game Day/Texas vs Mississippi/ ‘I believe’/Playoff Push!

Written by  Joe Sports

The theme worked for Canadians at the Olympics last month, so I'll use it here ‘I believe’.With 5 games left in the regular-season, they’re being written off as playoff contenders by a large contingent of hockey followers.

The RiverKings have to seize the moment. The Kings put themselves in a postition where they have to win every night.

Three teams are battling for the fourth and fifth seeding in the Northern Conference.Chemistry is critical if they intend on going on a winning streak. All that matters right now is winning games. That should be the only thing the players should be thinking about.

Taking a page out of Team Canada’s playbook, the Kings will cling to the Olympic theme the rest of the way. "I Believe" and why not, I believe in them.

That's the way I see it and I'm Joe Sports.

Game Day

Well it's hockey night at the DCC. Each and every game is a playoff game. It starts tonight vs Wildfong and the Brahmas. Tonight it's Texas and Saturday it's the Mudbugs.

On Saturday night, all-time scoring leader Don Parsons' number 13 jersey will be retired during a pre-game ceremony.

The defending Presidents Cup Champion Brahmas are in town.

The Brahmas have a record of 31- 22- 6 for 68 points. They still have not clinched a playoff spot in the Southern Conference. The top three producers for Texas are Jordan Cameron (21goals, 35 assists) 56 points, Jason Deitsch (12goals, 31 assists) 43 points and Tyler Skworchinski (21goals 17 assists) for 38 points.

Between the pipes Brett Jaeger has a goals against average of 2.66 and netminder Joe Palmer has a goals against average of 2.64.

Mississippi has a record of 29- 23- 7 for 65 points, two points ahead of Missouri. The top three producers are Ryan Held (31goals,36assists ) 67 points, Louis Dumont (21goals,37assists) 58 points and Bobby Chaumont (19 goals, 25assists) for 44 points.

Between the pipes for the Kings - Kyle McNulty has a goals against average of .96. Tim Boron has a goals against average of 3.58.

What Friday night's game means to the RiverKings

If we want to make the playoffs -Everything !! Remember we can only get fourth or fifth place. You want fourth because the opening round is the best of 3. The opening round will feature one (1) separate series of play in each conference, with the 4th seed playing the 5th seed.

THE PREDICTION

One week and a bit remain in the 2009-10 CHL regular season. Both these teams are in a battle for remaining playoff spots and important playoff positioning. So far, 5 teams have clinched playoff berths.

The Kings will have to come with their A game, I know Texas will. If the Kings get solid goaltending again and play like they did last Saturday and Sunday, they will win. It's playoffs folks.

We have to win to get to the post season. I sure hope the powerplay starts working.

The Pre-game is at 6:50pm The puck drops at 7:05 pm at the DCC in Southhaven MS.and can be heard on Sports 56, WHBQ-AM and it will be available on CHL-TV. Saturdays game vs the Mudbugs is at 7:05pm also.
